Decorating a Room
Since I play a lot of Sims, I tend to do alright with decorating houses and rooms. I have noted that I have a specific type of decorating "go to".
I have a thing for the beach, and I think that is what plays an important factor. My choices usually include a lot of blues, and beachy theme. Even in the Sims when I play I will make the cabinets white, and have 'light furniture throughout the home, or have two tone cabinets where the bottom cabinets will be a navy blue, and the upper cabinets will be white. And then I include blue accents throughout the home.
This past year at school for Interior Decorating I forced myself out of that comfort zone, trying things such as using yellow as an accent colour, thinking of attempting red, then remembering that red is really over powering, and you gave to be careful with how you use it.
Recently I built a house in the Sims, it was technically two houses on one lot, but one was my standard modern, and blue home, and the other I tried forcing myself to make a little "old school" and look older. I think it went well, and I had fun doing it, I even experimented doing landscaping which is not my forte.
By forcing myself to do things, I am challenging myself, and making decisions I would not normally do, but it creates a change, and sometimes change is a good thing. It helps us grow as people, even if it can be scary sometimes.
